“skin” is originally a video essay in which I navigate the relationship between my skin, my immune system, and the environment. Vision is the least immediate sensation, and I see the world through an embodied reaction - my rash and bump on skin. Likewise, nature greets me by inscribing my body.
I feel grounded, however, when I have this physical connection with where I live. The surrounding constructs me. Through many migrations across the planet, I am constantly reconstructed.
I want to grasp this bonding between me, my skin, and my places. The sculpture — open to be touched, broken, interacted, reshaped, or hurt — is an embodiment of the video. It incarnates the very personal physicality, making it tangible for viewers to feel.
